While we have ushered in a new year, leaders are faced with many of the same challenges of 2020. With Covid-19 cases rising, social unrest concerns and a stressful political environment, leaders are facing new, more complex issues than they faced before. Organizations are finding that their leaders are having to tap into skills that are dormant, underutilized or not developed. This is a pressing concern that must be addressed sooner rather than later if organizations are looking to be successful in 2021.
There are many skills that make a leader effective. Skills such as communicating effectively, dealing with conflict and decision making are just a few skills that people believe leaders must have in order to be effective. Unfortunately, in today’s environment, these skills alone are not enough. Skills in developing cohesive teams, building inclusive work environments, managing emotions, and demonstrating flexibility are skills that are needed as we continue forward in this unknown environment. It’s important to note that these aren’t “nice to have” skills, but rather a critical necessity in order for organizations to remain competitive and succeed.
