It’s hard to believe that in just a few more months, we’ll be closing out 2022. There’s no better time than now to access what you have accomplished, and what still needs to get done.
For many leaders, across various organizations, the last 24 months had us truly operating in a VUCA (Volatile Uncertainty Complex Ambiguous) environment. From navigating a pandemic to social injustices to the current inflation challenges, leaders are having to deal with many complex issues while delivering on project / program expectations. While it may be tempting to throw in the towel, leaders know that the show must go on. And they know the key to success lies with the people they manage.
As we close in on the last few months of 2022, use this halfway point to connect and check-in with your team. Consider the goals you started with at the beginning of the year and assess where you are now. Determine the impact of unmet goals. For those goals that will result in a negative impact, create a plan to ensure that you meet those goals. For ones that have minimal impact, consider shifting those to the new year or removing them altogether. As you assess your department goals, ensure you are meeting the needs of your staff. Remember, it’s impossible to meet goals if you don’t meet the needs of your staff first.
Frequently checking in on your team’s progress gives you and your team an opportunity to assess your current state against your desired state. Are you tracking towards success? If not, what’s your plan? It’s not too late to make meaningful changes.
